Leadership exists for one purpose - to inspire others to serve.
Whether in or out of uniform, my focus has always been the same: professional or volunteer leadership, honouring cultural traditions, advocating for and standing alongside our First Peoples, and responding to humanitarian needs with purpose.
Whatever the role, I strive to show up, provide value, treat people with dignity and respect and - most importantly -
see what needs to be done and do it.
It has always been my goal to serve my community with compassion, develop leaders and build institutions, while advancing reconciliation.
Many people wait until the end of their careers to write their memoirs. This website is mine: an evolving digital record of a lifetime of service, leadership, and learning. It is a collection of experiences, lessons, successes, setbacks, and the people who have shaped the journey along the way.
I hope these pages show how lessons learned through policing, peacekeeping, teaching and community service eventually found practical expression in I WAS THIRSTY—a simple approach to community outreach that others are welcome to adapt and improve.
More importantly, I hope these stories, experiences, and reflections inspire you to make a difference in your own community. Above all else, I hope you will come to believe as I have that reconciliation, whether on the other side of the world or in your own backyard, cannot be achieved through words or policy alone. It is advanced through simple, measurable acts of service that recognize the dignity and inherent worth of every person.
If this website encourages even one person to step forward, to serve with compassion, to lead with humility, or to create a similar initiative where they live, then it will have fulfilled its purpose.
